Background
BASE provided the structural design for this new landmark multi-story retail/office space for Harley Davidson. The project consists of roughly 40,000 square feet of built space. The structure includes 20,000 square feet of basement, 14,000 square feet of interior display space and roughly 6,000 square feet of catwalk and loft space. The design incorporates the latest technology in sustainable design including photovoltaic power generation.
Collaborative Effort
The architectural touch of exposing the structure as a design element rendered an additional benefit of reducing the finish costs for the project. From a structural standpoint, additional attention to steel member sizes also provided a uniform appearance without adding costs to the project.
Client Benefits
This project followed a modified design-build approach by working with the owner's project manager and the contractor, Arita Poulson, to achieve the project budget. The project benefited from BASE's flexibility to accommodate owner requested changes throughout the construction phase, as a client's final vision can often evolve during a project. The end result is a project that ultimately met the owner's requirements.
