Background
The $318 million Hawaii Regional Security Operations Center (HRSOC) is a two-story 250,000 square foot building. This $318 million design-build high-tech project includes a Visitors Control Center, Warehouse Building, Antenna Farm Building, Inspection Building and other supporting structures.
Advanced Technology
This project utilized both interoperability and BIM (Building Information Modeling) to advance an agressive 36-month design/build schedule. Through the use of interoperability the structural engineer and steel design/build/fabricate team were able to work together, utilizing many of the same electronic files. This enabled the "mill order" of structural steel to occur only 3 months after notice to proceed. As the structural design package advanced ahead of other disciplines, final coordination was essential. Building Information Models were developed to assist with "clash detection" between the various services and the structural frame.
Client Benefits
Through collaborative effort, the client was provided with a building that met the required program needs within the original budget.
