Background
This project consists of new construction of a luxury single family residence and guest house of approximately 5,000 square foot and 1,300 square foot respectively. Located in Hualalai, this exclusive resort residence has been featured in Architectural Digest (August 2004).
Innovative Approach
As with all luxury residences, the architectural demands must be carefully coordinated with the structural framing to achieve the design vision of the project architects. These details include concealing mechanical window shades within the framing, and designing for high wind forces with very limited areas of walls that would otherwise block expansive views from living areas.
Client Benefits
The close coordination between the structural design and the detailed architectural designs helped to achieve a highly refined statement of sophistication within the home. As described in Architectural Digest, "It is impossible to build a house next to the ocean and assume that the hard, unforgiving sunlight and the salt air will not affect it. These challenges dictated the materials for the house...".
